OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to improve the post-hospital quality of life for the underserved patients of Ben Taub Hospital through the improvement of medication adherence, the improvement of follow-up appointment attendance, the distribution of medical/social/financial services, and the betterment of patient agency to utilize these services.

We are a joint organization between Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine that aims to provide Rice University undergraduates with valuable clinical experience while also helping underserved patients in the local Houston area navigate a complex healthcare system. BCM-PDI members, who are all Rice University students, volunteer at the emergency center of Ben Taub Hospital, which is one of Baylor’s affiliate hospitals. Many of Ben Taub’s patients come from underprivileged backgrounds and have limited access to regular medical care. Our organization helps the staff at Ben Taub with patient discharge while also offering these patients essential social resources.
